SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Former student presents Twin Lakes SS teachers with award

June 16, 2026

In June, former Twin Lakes SS student Anna Irwin visited the school with a special purpose - to present the 2026 Loran Teachers Building Leaders Award to two teachers, Sarah Hagman and Sarah Vurma. Nominated for the lasting impact they had on Irwin's educational and extracurricular journey, both educators were recognized for supporting and inspiring students to reach their full potential.

"She helps student-athletes grow not only as players on the court but as people, building teamwork, encouraging community work, and kindness," Irwin said of physical education teacher and coach Hagman. "Years later, she is still always there to listen, ask about my adventures, and encourage me."

In speaking about science teacher and coach Vurma, Irwin said "her heart, passion, and drive to help students and athletes succeed sets her apart. To this day, I can still hear her encouraging me, telling me to strive for the tops of the trees, beyond the trails."

Teachers Building Leaders Award nominations come from graduating Loran Scholars, who are invited to show gratitude to their teachers who provided early inspiration, guidance, and growth opportunities and who helped shape the trajectories of their lives.
