Superior-Greenstone District School Board Hosts Second Annual Excellence Awards Ceremony

The Superior-Greenstone District School Board proudly hosted its second annual Excellence Awards ceremony on Friday, May 17th, marking a significant occasion to celebrate the outstanding achievements and unwavering dedication demonstrated across the school district.

The event, attended by esteemed community partners and dedicated school board staff, was a resounding success, serving as a platform to recognize and honor the exceptional contributions of individuals who continually strive for excellence in their respective roles. As one of the largest employers in the district, with over 500 total employees, the Superior-Greenstone District School Board holds its staff in high regard, acknowledging their pivotal role in nurturing and sustaining the thriving elementary and secondary school communities.

Various award categories were presented during the ceremony, including the prestigious 10 and 25 Years of Service, Retirement Awards, Champions for Education Award, Innovator's Excellence Award, and the Outstanding Achievement Award, among others. Notably, in commemoration of the esteemed former Director, the David Tamblyn Memorial Award for Making a Difference was established to recognize individuals who exemplify a profound commitment to positive change and impact.

Director Nicole Morden Cormier underscored the significance of these awards, emphasizing their integral role within the school board's broader employee recognition and well-being program. "We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated staff members who have devoted their careers to supporting the growth and success of our school communities," stated Director Morden Cormier.

The Champions for Education Award celebrates the exceptional contributions of individuals and organizations who play a vital role in supporting schools, students, staff, and programs within Superior-Greenstone District School Board. This year, the school board is proud to honor Lisa Michano-Courchene, Education Director for Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Brandy Brake Weldon of DILICO Anishinabek Family Care, who serves as Chair of the Special Education Advisory Committee, Amanda Stefanile, Achievement Program Coordinator with Lakehead University, Jim Keyes the School College Work Initiative Coordinator for Regional Planning Team 11 with Confederation College, and the CWB Welding Foundation's Joshua Fortin and Sam Fisher as recipients of this esteemed award.

Director of Education Nicole Morden Cormier stated that the "Champions for Education Award recipients unwavering dedication and commitment, have positively impacted the educational experience of our students and enriched our school communities". She expressed heartfelt gratitude to each of them for their outstanding contributions and continued support.
