A $9.2 million addition for Eagle Heights Public School is complete and will be open when classes resume on Sept. 4.
This addition accommodates 300 more students and increase the school's library and administration area. A new bus lane will also be open for September.
Some interior renovations are still underway at Eagle Heights and are expected to be complete for November.
"West London is one of the fastest growing communities in the board. Which is why I'm excited and pleased that this long-awaited, and much-needed, addition to Eagle Heights Public School is now complete.," said Mark Fisher, Director of Education for the Thames Valley District School Board. "I want to thank the Ministry of Education for their continued support for our students."
"We're so pleased this addition is complete. It will make a big difference for our students and their families in west London," said Board Chairperson Beth Mai. "It will definitely help our school community as it continues to grow."
Eagle Heights Public School was originally built for 680 students. Before the addition, the school required 18 portable classrooms to accommodate more than 1,000 students. Funding for the addition was first approved by the Ministry of Education in January 2022, with additional funding provided in May 2023.
"The completion of the main addition at Eagle Heights Public School in London is very welcome news for the local community," said Steve Pinsonneault, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. "This investment will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead."
Eagle Heights is one of eight construction projects, totalling $200.7 million, underway in Thames Valley - seven of which are new schools.
