On April 13, secondary students from across the province competed at Skills Ontario Regional Qualifier events for a chance to represent their board at the upcoming Provincial Championships.
The regional qualifiers are another level of qualifications required, as they are the most in demand Skills Ontario competitions. Categories included individual carpentry, television and film, welding, and culinary.
The events were held at seven different colleges across the province. Trillium Lakelands District School Board students competed at Georgian College, with two students from I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS) and Huntsville High School (HHS) competing in carpentry, two students from Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School and HHS competing in culinary, and three students from IEWSS, Gravenhurst High School, and HHS competing in welding.
In the carpentry competitions, IEWSS Grade 12 student, Caleb Dyck, finished first, and HHS Grade 10 student, Oliver Walsh, finished second. Both students will be moving on to Provincials Championships taking place on Tuesday, May 7, in Toronto.
TLDSB wishes these students good luck in May!
