On April 16, Grade 7/8 students from across Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) participated in the Board-level qualifier event for the Skills Ontario Television (TV) and Video Production Challenge.
Prior to this competition, each school was responsible for organizing and hosting their own school-level competition, with the successful team moving on to the board-level competition.
In teams of two, students were required to create a "micro short film" that was up to 90 seconds long and followed one of six offered themes. Students were encouraged to work through the pre-production, production, and post-production process, ensuring to include student acting and real footage throughout the film. To connect the students' learning to real-life careers in TV and video production, two guest judges were brought on to provide feedback to the contestants - a huge thank you to Luca Celebre and Alex Jyn-Li Cairns for taking the time to provide such insightful industry knowledge and feedback to our Grade 7/8 students!
In total, 13 entries were submitted from schools across the Board. The results:
- First place - What's in the Woods by Bobcaygeon Public School (BPS)
- First runner up - A Cowboy's Tale by Huntsville Public School
- Second runner up - The Interview by Lady Mackenzie Public School
The first place team from BPS will move onto the Skills Ontario Provincial event taking place in Toronto on Monday, May 6 - good luck!
