TRILLIUM LAKELANDS DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
TLDSB Students Attend Fleming College's Skilled Trades Day

December 13, 2024

Throughout November and December, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Grade 7 and 8 students attended Fleming College's Skilled Trades Days.

Hosted at the Peterborough campus, students had the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in an engaging college setting.

The first activity was mechanical/plumbing, where students learned basic plumbing techniques to build a copper coat hook that was mounted onto a wooden block.

The second activity was electrical, where students were introduced to the basic electrical environment. They participated in hands-on experiential learning activities involving electronic circuits and timers.

Here's what a few students had to say about their experiences:

"I think we learn a lot more doing this. It teaches us what we need to know. This stuff is important because people need other people who know how to do skilled trades." - Bobcaygeon Public School student, Cameron Weddel

"Hands on is something I like. I like working with wood. This was the first time I soldered copper pipe using a torch. Pretty cool." - Bobcaygeon Public School student, James Sonegra
