The Ministry of Education has approved a proposal from the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) to issue the tender for a new joint Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 Southeast Cambridge Public School and Southeast Galt Catholic Elementary School. The school will be located at 605 Wesley Blvd in Cambridge.
The Ontario government has also provided an investment of $40.9 million from the Province, the WRDSB portion of this new facility will create:
- 519 new elementary school spaces for WRDSB students
- 72 licensed childcare spaces
"Waterloo Region District School Board is grateful for funding being provided to build the new Cambridge and Southeast Galt School and the ongoing support of MPP Brian Riddell for this project. It will be the first joint use elementary school in Waterloo Region. We hope through this combined use of space that we can maximize resources and better serve our communities," said Chris Sagar, Superintendent of Facility Service at WRDSB. "We look forward to working together with Waterloo Catholic District School Board, and all our stakeholders to create a school that meets the needs of current and future students."
What Comes Next?
Before we open this new elementary school, WRDSB will:
- Conduct a boundary study to determine which students will attend this school
- Determine a name for the new WRDSB facility, following our procedure for Naming and Renaming Board Facilities (AP 4865)
We can't wait to welcome future WRDSB learners to this new school!
