YORK CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
New Video Series Shines Light on Stress Awareness for Students

November 20, 2024

At YCDSB, we are dedicated to the well-being of our students, staff, and their families. That is why we are excited to share a new video series that is now available on our YouTube channel (YorkCatholicTV). This series was developed to provide essential mental health resources and support for elementary and secondary students, staff and their families.

This project shows that stress awareness is an important topic that everyone should learn more about. We wanted to make videos that would be entertaining and informative, which is why we used a popular and engaging format inspired by the widely recognized WIRED Autocomplete videos.

More About the Series: Three Videos, Three Key Topics

This series includes three separate videos, each tackling a different aspect of stress:

  • "Can Stress ?"

The first video explores what stress is and how it affects students. In this video, we were very fortunate to have Michelle Prinzo, the YCDSB's Mental Health Lead, share her expertise. Michelle answers commonly asked questions about stress, providing clear, thoughtful explanations to help students understand what stress can look like and how it can impact their daily lives.

  • "Are There Supports?"

In the second video, we discuss the various supports available for students experiencing stress. Vanessa Schirripa, one of our dedicated Mental Health Workers, outlines some of the in-person and online supports offered to help students who may need additional support.

  • "Is Stress Management ?"

The third video highlights different strategies for managing stress. It features two of our amazing YCDSB Mental Health Ambassadors, Julia and Vincent, who share their experiences with stress management. Their perspectives are open enough to reach elementary and secondary students, making the content relatable no matter the viewer's age.

Videos Online

The motivation behind this video series was to create an accessible resource that students and families can turn to whenever they need guidance on managing stress. Stress is a part of everyone's life, therefore we hope the advice and easy strategies in these videos will help you navigate stress more easily. These videos are available indefinitely on the YCDSB YouTube channel so students, staff and their families can watch them whenever needed. Additionally, all the videos include closed captioning, ensuring they are accessible to all viewers.

We encourage our YCDSB community to watch, share and make use of these resources. Together, let's continue to support the mental health and well-being of our students.
