Donald Lecture Series: Robert J. Cottrol, Legal Scholar and Historian - ‘Racial Violence and Underprotection: Another Perspective on the American Gun Debate'.

The 2023-2024 Donald Lecture Series continues with a guest lecturer Robert Cottrol, on Tuesday, February 20th at Centennial Theatre at 7 p.m. Pr. Cottrol will present his lecture, Racial Violence and Underprotection: Another Perspective on the American Gun Debate'.

Cottrol is the Harold Paul Green Research Professor of Law and Professor of History and Sociology at George Washington University, along with being a specialist in US and Comparative Legal History. His writings on history and law have appeared in journals such as Yale Law Journal, the Stanford Law Review, the Georgetown Law Journal, American Quarterly and the Latin American Research Review, and other journals.

His other literary works include his books "The Long, Lingering Shadow: Slavery, Race and Law in the American Hemisphere" (University of Georgia Press, 2013) and To Trust the People with Arms: The Supreme Court and the Second Amendment (University Press of Kansas, 2023, co-authored with Brannon P. Denning).

Along with his work in US law and history, he also is a recurring Visiting Professor at La Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina, along with lecturing at many other Argentinian universities. He is now also co-editing a volume on Afro-Argentine life in the twentieth century.
