ELEMENTARY TEACHERS' FEDERATION OF ONTARIO
ETFO celebrates World Teachers' Day

October 6, 2023

On World Teachers' Day, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) joins the global community in celebrating teachers for their unwavering commitment to inspiring and preparing students for a world of endless possibilities.

"Teachers, along with other educators, are the heart of Ontario's public education system. Each day, they work to create safe and inclusive learning environments for all students because they care deeply about their success and well-being," says ETFO President Karen Brown. "When we uplift and honour teachers for their dedicated efforts, we strengthen the foundation of the education system and encourage a new generation of educators."

World Teachers' Day is a time to acknowledge the invaluable work done by teachers on a daily basis in classrooms across the country. By engaging students and providing them with an equitable, high-quality education, teachers make a difference. Notes Brown, "Today, as always, we thank teachers for all they do to protect children and youth, and for their efforts to empower students to build a better world."

Recognized annually on October 5, World Teachers' Day commemorates the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. It is jointly organized in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
