SUPPORTING STUDENTS AND PUBLIC EDUCATION IN ONTARIO
Trustees meet with MPPs at Queen's Park for OPSBA Advocacy Day

November 28, 2023

Nearly 50 English public school board trustees from across Ontario are at Queen's Park on November 27 for the Ontario Public School Boards' Association's (OPSBA) annual Advocacy Day.

The trustees, who are members of OPSBA's Board of Directors as well as student leaders, are participating in numerous meetings with representatives from every party represented in the Ontario Legislature. The Association's advocacy priorities for the year ahead include: Education Funding, Indigenous Education, and School Capital and Facilities Issues.

These successful meetings come after a strong year of OPSBA and local school board advocacy for Ontario's public education system, which included the inaugural Take Your MPP to School Day in May and visits from trustees to classrooms and meetings with municipal leaders during October's Local Government Week.

Trustees play a key leadership role in ensuring that schools operate within the standards established by the province, and that programs and services remain responsive to the diverse communities that they serve. They are the decision makers that know their communities best and are the crucial link between the local school board and their communities.

OPSBA's Advocacy Day is an opportunity to share the Association's priorities and continue building strong relationships to support public education in Ontario. It follows OPSBA's recent submission to the Ministry of Education's Education Funding and Grants for Student Needs consultation.
