OECTA Reaches First Local Tentative Agreement

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) is pleased to announce that the first of its local tentative agreements has been reached between the Algonquin-Lakeshore Unit and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. The 700 members of the unit, who teach Kindergarten to Grade 12, will now vote on the tentative agreement

"The Board and OECTA entered this round of bargaining committed to reaching a fair and equitable agreement for the teachers of the Algonquin-Lakeshore Unit," said Algonquin-Lakeshore Unit President, Bob Giasson. "I am happy to announce we were able to achieve that."

No details of the agreement will be released until after members have ratified the deal.

Once the local ratification process is complete, the collective agreement will be finalized under the new provincial bargaining legislation.

"We are pleased that the first local tentative agreement has been signed," said OECTA President Ann Hawkins. "There are many local deals still to come, but with our OECTA units currently involved in productive negotiations, we will surely hear about additional agreements in the days and weeks ahead."

A tentative provincial agreement was reached on August 25 between OECTA and the Ontario government and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association (OCSTA) and ratified by the OECTA membership on September 18.
