CONSEIL DES ÉCOLES CATHOLIQUES DU CENTRE-EST
High-Profile Collaborators Team Up With École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges's Academy of Arts

March 13, 2023

On March 9, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) announced the roster of invaluable collaborators teaming up with École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges's Academy of Arts, a program that has ignited the passion of more than 600 students over the past two school years.

To celebrate the big news and the Academy itself, which was launched right in the middle of the pandemic the students proudly hosted a showcase of comedy, theatre and music punctuated by testimonials from former students. Audience members got a taste of the students' impressive artistic talent and the high-quality instruction offered at the Academy.

Over the coming months, Academy students will have a chance to draw on the expertise and resources of major players in the arts and culture industry, namely:

L'École nationale de l'Humour
L'Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau (OSG)
University of Ottawa
L'Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO)
Voix Visuelle

In the near future, two associate professors from the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) will be serving an action research residency in citizen design, which includes facilitating a variety of enriching workshops for Grade 10 students in the Academy's design course. Two guest artists from France and Argentina will introduce the students to screen printing to create artwork to display in the community. A catalogue of teaching tools will be created and distributed following the collaboration.

In their words :

"We see this as an exceptional opportunity to get an up-close look at the talent the region's young musicians have to offer."

- Yves Marchand, Executive Director, Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau

"The Faculty of Arts' School of Music, Department of Visual Arts and Department of Theatre are pleased to pursue and strengthen our existing ties through a formal, multi-year partnership."

- Kathryn Prince, Dean, University of Ottawa, Faculty of Arts

"The Academy of Arts and the École nationale de l'humour have been cultivating the arts, specifically the comedic arts, through a 110+ hour program for students. We all value and benefit from this reciprocity, and we are committed to maintaining our invaluable synergy."

- Louise Richer, Founding Executive Director, École nationale de l'humour

"Partnerships with these major players will raise the Academy of Arts' profile, strengthen its reputation and enhance the level of instruction. The Academy offers students opportunities that are perfectly aligned with the board's strategic vision for transformed and innovative teaching. Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make these learning opportunities available to students."

- Johanne Lacombe, Chair, CECCE

"I welcome these promising collaborations that will most certainly excite and inspire our young artists. The close and lasting connections they will make with these experienced professionals will feed their dreams of a thriving future in the arts."
