HEQCO's Women in Academia project was a multi-part project focused on current and historical gender disparities among faculty in Canadian universities. As observations surrounding International Women's Day take place, we wanted to take an opportunity to highlight this project as gaps in representation continue to exist.
The project was unique for HEQCO as it contains different types of resources which can be consumed independently or in conjunction with one another. Many feature interactive data visualizations which provide readers with an in-depth look at issues including salary disparities, the "leaky pipeline" phenomenon and employment trends. The final report summarized a series of interviews with women in academic STEM including graduate students, professors and women who left academic STEM to pursue other career paths.
