A new review by HEQCO offers insight into how microcredentials are meeting the evolving needs of today's learners in the province and finds that in Ontario, microcredentials are best suited to upskilling adult learners. In addition to considering evidence of supply, demand and outcomes, HEQCO conducted interviews with representatives from Ontario institutions, research and quality assurance organizations, and governments and institutions from outside of the province.
The findings align with those of HEQCO's 2021 report on microcredentials: these short, focused credentials are best suited to act as a complement to credentials like degrees and diplomas. The review concludes by offering recommendations for improving the microcredential strategy in Ontario.
