EDCAN NETWORK
Launch of the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Ken Spencer Awards for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

October 5, 2018

The EdCan Network celebrates a decade of validating the work of courageous educators who have gone above and beyond to connect their disengaged and disadvantaged students to a love of learning.

The national EdCan Network is seeking applications for the 2018-2019 Ken Spencer Awards from Canadian K-12 educators who have pioneered programs that have made learning relevant and exciting for their students. This award continues to gain prominence and prestige for discovering, profiling and sharing innovative classroom practice across the country.

Seven cash awards totalling $15,000 are available to be won for publicly-funded elementary, middle, and secondary schools in Canada, including Quebec CÉGEPs. Winning entries will also be profiled nationally - to encourage peer-to-peer learning - in Education Canada Magazine, which could include articles, podcast interviews and opinion pieces.

"Beyond the generous cash awards that Dr. Ken Spencer provides, we've seen the lasting positive impact of school communities gathering to celebrate their achievements and share their success," says Max Cooke, EdCan Network Interim CEO. "This is why I always encourage teachers to stop being humble and to write us a few paragraphs about how they're breaking new ground inside and outside of their classrooms, which can quickly lead to much-deserved national recognition."

The deadline for educators to submit their short 250-word synopsis describing their innovative program is 5pm (Pacific Time) November 5, 2018.
