Nipissing University Celebrates Outstanding Research

Nipissing University celebrated the research contributions of seven of its faculty members who received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) last year during a Research Showcase held on January 22. 

The event highlighted eight different research studies that collectively earned $837,535 in funding in 2019:

  • Dr. Steven Arnocky, professor, psychology

    • The good genes sexual selection controversy: Does the Handicap Principal apply to modern humans?

      • NSERC Discovery Grant recipient
  • Dr. Brenda Bruner, professor, physical and health education
    • Exploring food rewards and the role it plays on children's motivation to participate in sport

      • SSHRC Insight Development Grant recipient
  • Dr. Hilary Earl, professor, history
    • Murder on the Beach: A Case Study of a single Einsatzgruppen execution at Liepaja, Latvia in photographs, on film, and in testimony, 1941

      • SSHRC - Insight Development Grant recipient
  • Dr. Amir Erfani, professor, sociology
    • Transformed intimate relationships and low fertility: Examining the fertility influence of spousal intimate relationships

      • SSHRC - Insight Grant recipient
  • Dr. Kirsten Greer, associate professor, geography and history
    • Place-based reparative environmental histories: Symposium 2.0
