On Thursday, April 11 Lester B. Pearson School Board hosted their Adult Learners' Gala at the board's head office in Dorval. This annual event is a unique opportunity to honour all adults who are learning in the workplace, at school and in everyday life, as well as to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.
Adult learners from each of the board's Continuing Education centres as well as candidates going through the Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC) process attended the ceremony. In addition, each centre nominated one person who spoke about his/her experience with returning to school. These testimonials are the highlight of the event. The school board presented bursaries to a nominee from each centre.
This year's guest speaker was Amber Ahmed, a graduate from Gordon Robertson Beauty Academy (GRBA). Ms. Ahmed's professional journey in the beauty industry started while studying at GRBA. Passionate about makeup and skincare, Ms. Ahmed wanted to offer women an opportunity to get skincare and spa treatments at a women's only facility. She's a lifelong learner who won the Quebec Vocational Olympiades in Esthetics while studying at GRBA. Since graduating, Ms. Ahmed has competed in many worldwide competitions and is currently training to compete in next year's Paris Hair Show.
