Applications for the 2023 Loran Award are open! The Loran Scholars Foundation is beginning our search for the 34th cohort and we need educators' help to identify students who demonstrate strength of character, dedication to serving others in the community, and the promise of leadership potential.
The Loran Award is an exciting opportunity for students considering university studies in fall 2023. The only award of its kind in Canada, the Loran Award is a four-year leadership enrichment program consisting of summer work experiences, mentorship, annual gatherings, an annual living stipend, a tuition waiver at one of 25 university partners, and a community of people working to build a better world.
It is much more than simply a financial scholarship for post-secondary studies. It is an opportunity to build critical skills and capacity for leadership, to expand horizons by taking on new challenges and exploring diverse experiences, and to join a community of purpose-driven peers who are committed to leaving the world better than they found it.
To identify Loran Scholars, we look beyond the transcript to find evidence of character, commitment to service, and the potential for leadership. We look for those who are humble, inquisitive, and thoughtful; who shun the status quo and pursue their own unique paths; who bring others along, will act in the face of injustices, and are inspired to build a better world. It is the long-term mission of our organization to invest in the development of our country's diverse leadership ecosystem. We believe our society will thrive if we ensure that these high-potential students are given the opportunity to imagine, explore, and create the future.

Communicate this opportunity widely with your student body. Please take advantage of this toolkit containing ready-to-use promotional materials for you to share via your school's website, social media channels, newsletters, etc. We encourage you to share it with your School Board too, so that other schools in your area may be aware.
Describe the type of students Loran is looking for to your fellow staff members and ask your colleagues to send you lists of individuals who demonstrate the Loran values.
Contact all students recommended by your staff and urge them to apply for the award, directing them to loranscholar.ca/becoming-a-scholar.
Invite those students to register for one of our webinars specifically for interested applicants where they can learn more about the Loran Award and hear from Loran Scholars.
