Hydro One presents four Ontario Tech engineering students with prestigious awards

Ontario Tech University celebrates four Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science students who have earned Hydro One awards. Through its sponsorship of the university's Women in Engineering (WiE) Society, Hydro One supports students with career development opportunities, industry connections and award recognition.

Award recognition

This year, three third year software engineering students are among nine recipients of the Hydro One Women in Engineering Award, which celebrates academic excellence and leadership within both the university and broader community.

Ontario Tech students include:

  • Inshal Chauhdry
  • Caren Eissa
  • Aliza Rizwan

"This award is incredibly meaningful to me. It represents the hard work, persistence and growth I've experienced throughout my journey. It motivates me to continue pushing myself and contributing to my community." says Inshal Chauhdry.

 "I see this award as both recognition and responsibility." Says Caren Eissa. "It allows me to make meaningful contributions wherever I go."

The university also recognizes Oladipupo Aganga, a second-year electrical engineering student and 1 of 5 recipients of the Hydro One William Peyton Hubbard Memorial Award. Named in honour of William Peyton Hubbard Toronto's first Black Alderman, a champion of public hydroelectric power, the award recognizes outstanding Black undergraduate students studying energy industry-related disciplines. 

Both awards include financial support and a paid work term with Hydro One, providing hands-on industry experience that strengthens their practical skills and career readiness.

Supporting the future of engineers

The partnership builds pathways from classroom learning to careers in the energy sector. Alongside institutions including Ontario Tech, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Waterloo and Western University, Hydro One invests in industry connections, professional development, skill-building and networking opportunities for students.

It has also been announced that Hydro One and the WiE Society partnership, since 2015, has been renewed for three more years ensuring ongoing support for student achievement and industry engagement.
