Five new members for the University of Sudbury Board of Regents

The University of Sudbury is pleased to announce the appointment of five new members to its Board of Regents: Mr. Dominic Beaudry, Ms. Joanne Bénard, Mr. Edmond Paquette, Ms. Janique Perrin and Dr. Tim Vine.

 Mr. Dominic Beaudry has a Bachelor of Arts in History and Indigenous Studies from Trent University, a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University, and a Master of Arts in Socio-economic History with a focus on Indigenous Education from the University of Toronto. He has vast experience in education, having taught at various levels including Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teaching positions with Ontario school boards. Mr. Beaudry was also a school principal and Education Director with the Wikwemikong Board of Education. After leaving Wikwemikong, he was Professor of Indigenous Studies at Seneca College in Toronto. He is currently a teacher & Anishinaabe Language Facilitator with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Mr. Beaudry has been a member of both Laurentian University and Cambrian College board of governors and has chaired various committees. 

Ms. Joanne Bénard has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Education as well as a Master of Education from Nipissing University. She is currently Director of Education for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Practicum Adjudicator for the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers' Association (OCSOA), and has been Superintendent of Education for the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. She has experience in social work and a breadth of experience in education at various levels, having also been an instructor at Nipissing University, an elementary school principal, and having taught French from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 9, and to adults. With a number of publications to her name, she has given presentations at provincial and international levels, and has been involved in various committees and associations, such as the Institute for Education Leadership (IEL) and the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre, to name but a few. 

Mr. Edmond Paquette has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Certificate of Bilingualism from Laurentian University, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa, and he was called to the Bar in 1995. He is a deputy judge in Small Claims Court, presiding in the Sudbury and North East region and taking on matters in the French language, or bilingual trials. He is also the lawyer and sole shareholder of Paquette & Paquette Professional Law Corporation in Val Caron. Involved in his community and the Francophone sphere, he has been a member of the Sudbury Criminal Protocol Review Committee, the French Language Services Bench and Bar Response Steering Committee, and has occupied several roles in the Sudbury District Law Association, including presidency. His contributions can also be seen elsewhere, such as the Chamber of Commerce, Health Sciences North, Sudbury McCulloch Hospice, Club Richelieu, St. Joseph's Foundation and Rotary Club. 

Ms. Janique Perrin has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics as well as an Honours B.A. in Religious Studies (a University of Sudbury program), from Laurentian University. She also has a certificate in Palliative Care from La Cité collégiale and has completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Saint Paul University. She served as the founding Spiritual Care Coordinator and Ethics Lead at the Maison Vale Hospice and recently worked in Spiritual Services at the University of Sudbury. Earlier in her career, she worked in production at Radio-Canada and then in Communications and Alumni Affairs at Laurentian University, all the while maintaining a management role in the family-owned business, Marc Perrin Insurance Inc. Giving back to the community, she has contributed to many agencies and networks, such as the Paroisse St-Jean-de Brébeuf, Maison La Paix / Sudbury Hospice, the Sudbury Manitoulin Community Ethics Network (SMCEN), the Elgin Street Mission and the Bereavement Foundation of Sudbury, amongst others. 

Dr. Tim Vine has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Huron University College, a Master of Arts in Political Science from University of Western Ontario, a PhD in Political Science from University of Western Ontario, and is currently completing a Masters of Business Administration (CPA Stream) from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University. With an in-depth knowledge of operations and finance, he is currently the VP of Corporate Support Services and CFO of Manitoulin Health Centre, and was previously Director of Finance and Treasurer at the City of Elliot Lake, and Director of Operations and Finance at Area One Farms, amongst other positions. Community-minded, he has been a member of several boards, including those of the John Brown Heritage Foundation, Manitoulin Legal Aid, the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank, and more. He has also written a number of publications on multiculturalism, politics, and a variety of other topics.

These members fill vacancies that were existing or upcoming, due to various shifts and the end of terms. Well wishes and thanks are extended to Donald Obonsawin, Paul Marleau, Linda Wilson, Lucien Pelletier, Jacob Lessard, and Elyse Clements (Vice-Chair).
