The Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association is looking forward to working with Minister Krista Lynn Howell in her new role as Minister of Education.
"Quality, properly resourced, publicly funded K-12 education is vital to this province and its future prosperity," said Trent Langdon, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association. "However, within the education system in this province, there are very real concerns facing our teachers every day. Retention and recruitment of qualified educators and specialists; class size and composition; substitute teacher shortages; lack of resources in our schools - these have long been issues in our classrooms. We are dealing with a hidden reality that parents and decision makers in this province are not seeing. I look forward to meeting with Minister Howell in due course to highlight these issues and to discuss matters of importance to NLTA members and public education in this province."
The Association is also expressing best wishes to former Education Minister John Haggie as he takes on his new role.
