As we embrace our Spiritual Theme, Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings, St. Cecilia School is putting these words into action through an inspiring Lenten initiative. From March 31 to April 17, students will be "casting hope" through a unique fundraising project aimed at making a tangible difference in the lives of families in Honduras and South Sudan.
Reeling in the Love
Through School Cash Online, the St. Cecilia community will "Share What They Can Spare" to support this cause. Funds raised will go toward purchasing fishing kits and training for families in need, providing them with sustainable ways to secure food and generate income.
A Fin-tastic Fishing Race
In the spirit of friendly competition, all classes will take part in a "fin-tastic fishing race." Students have been grouped into teams named Hope, Dreams, Faith, Future, Change, Health, and Opportunity, each striving to raise the most funds. The winning team will receive a special prize, but the true reward lies in the impact they will make on families around the world.
A Kickoff to Remember
The initiative launched on March 31 with a kickoff assembly. The hour-long event featured student-led presentations and a moving musical performance. Two Grade 6 students provided live instrumental accompaniment to a modified version of a well-known song, setting the tone for a season of generosity and hope.
Casting Hope, Reeling in Change
This project reflects the OCSB's Strategic Commitments to Be Community, Be Well, and Be Innovative. It encourages Deep Learning, challenging students to extend their skills beyond the classroom to create positive change in the world.
With the hashtags #reelinginthelove #pouvoirdespoissons #pêchercontrelapauvreté #OCSBLent, this initiative reminds us that small actions like providing a fishing kit can open doors, build bridges, and nourish new beginnings for families across the globe.
The entire OCSB community celebrates the work being done by these students.
