As I share my first Annual Report as Director of Education, I do so with gratitude, humility, and great hope for what lies ahead. The Ottawa Catholic School Board is a community like no other, built on faith, compassion, and the shared belief that every child can thrive when they are known, valued, and supported.
The 2024-2025 school year unfolded under the trusted leadership of Director Tom D'Amico. It was a year defined by growth, innovation, and connection, a true reflection of who we are as a Catholic learning community. As we move into 2025-2026, I am honoured to carry this mission forward with faith and purpose.
Guided by our Spiritual Theme, Open Doors, Build Bridges, Nourish New Beginnings, we saw faith come to life across our schools and communities. We welcomed our 50,000th student into the OCSB family and celebrated the openings of new schools. These joyful milestones reflected the trust families placed in Catholic education and the dedication of our staff who made every new beginning feel like coming home.
Innovation flourished as students launched an AI experiment into space, explored creativity through the Elite Skilled Trades Academy (ESTA), and discovered new ways to think, problem-solve, and dream big. Our approach to Artificial Intelligence was guided by faith and focused on people using technology to enhance learning while keeping relationships at the heart of everything we do.
Our commitment to well-being was evident in every act of care and compassion. From Mental Health Awareness Week to inclusive celebrations like the Special Olympics Swim Meet, our Be Well commitment came to life - reminding us that belonging and kindness are essential to learning.
The heart of our community also shone through generosity and service. From St. Brigid's Camp's $500,000 gift to CEFO, to student-led initiatives like Feeding the 5000, we saw compassion in action. Through the Indigenous Student Cultural Celebration and Pow Wow, we deepened our understanding of truth and reconciliation. We celebrated belonging at our first Black Excellence Graduation Celebration, a joyful reminder of the power of representation and hope.
We sincerely thank our Board of Trustees, led by Chair Mark Mullan, for their guidance, vision, and dedication to Catholic education. Their leadership strengthened our collective mission to serve students and families with care, inclusion, and excellence.
Thank you to our staff, families, parishes, and community partners for your ongoing trust and care. Together, we are living our mission to Be Community, Be Well, and Be Innovative, building bridges, connecting hearts, inspiring minds, and shaping a hope-filled future for all.
