Military personnel will now get their own courses

Université de Montréal has partnered with the Canadian Armed Forces to create new courses of study tailored to regular and reserve members, including one leading to a certificate in military leadership. A memorandum of understanding was announced today (10/3) by Rector Guy Breton and Brigadier-General Hercule Gosselin, Commander 2nd Canadian Division and Joint Task Force East.
 
The university's Faculty of Continuing Education (FEP) has developed these training courses in response to the needs expressed by members of the Forces and by leveraging the University's expertise in continuing education.
 
Brigadier-General Gosselin said he was "delighted" with the new agreement.
 
"This program will provide participants with a unique learning opportunity in a challenging environment where they will acquire a set of core skills and practices associated with effective military leadership," he said. "This learning will bring tangible benefits for their careers not only within the Canadian Armed Forces, but also as leaders of tomorrow."
 
Added Mr. Breton: "This agreement reflects the importance the Canadian Armed Forces places on the continuing education of its members and we are pleased to have been selected to support this ambition with quality programs designed specifically for them at the Faculty of Continuing Education."
 
The Military Leadership Certificate is an outgrowth of the Faculty's mission to accompany students who have decided to go back to school. By adapting the structure, practices and objectives of its programs to the personal and professional situations of learners, the Faculty fulfills its mandate in terms of accessibility and integration.
 
For Christian Blanchette, Dean of the Faculty of Continuing Education, "this partnership is in perfect harmony with the role of the Faculty to support and accompany professionals in a lifelong learning perspective."
