POLYTECHNIQUE MONTRÉAL
Polytechnique Montréal and Institut polytechnique de Paris sign strategic partnership agreement

April 19, 2024

As part of a strategic partnership, Polytechnique Montréal and Institut polytechnique de Paris are reaffirming and expanding their teaching and research collaboration in the fields of engineering, science and management.

At the 21st alternating meeting of the premiers of Québec and France, held in Québec on April 11 and 12, 2024, Polytechnique Montréal signed a framework agreement with the French higher-education and research institution Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris), which since 2019 has encompassed five leading universities: École Polytechnique, ENSTA Paris (École nationale supérieure de techniques avancées), ENSAE Paris (École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique), Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis.

This agreement strengthens the movement toward a strategic partnership, based on a critical mass of activities that Polytechnique Montréal has already been implementing for several years with four of the IP Paris member institutions à. Agreements with Télécom Paris since 1994, École Polytechnique since 1996, ENSTA Paris since 2006 and Télécom SudParis since 2013 have fostered double-degree and short-stay student mobility, graduate research internships and scientific co-publications.

"I am delighted that Polytechnique Montréal and Institut Polytechnique de Paris, with which we have a long-standing relationship, are expanding their ties in teaching and research," said Maud Cohen, President of Polytechnique Montréal. "The resulting collaborations in science, engineering and management will have a positive impact on our respective communities. The knowledge and expertise generated by this strategic partnership will help meet the needs of society and the challenges of an ever-changing world."

Thierry Coulhon, Acting Chair of the Board of Directors of IP Paris, noted: "I am very proud of this strategic partnership signed between Institut Polytechnique de Paris and Polytechnique Montréal, which seals the bonds between our two institutions in the areas of teaching, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. On both sides of the Atlantic, our two international institutions are collaborating at the highest level to address major societal challenges."

As part of this partnership, Polytechnique Montréal and IP Paris will seek to step up exchanges between members of their student, faculty and research communities, as well as information- sharing and scientific collaboration. In addition, the institutions will invite each other to take part in various scientific and technical meetings.

Institutions covered by the agreement will be encouraged to collaborate in the development of educational programs as well as joint conferences, workshops, exhibitions and seminars. The agreement also provides for the exploration of various potential areas of collaboration for research and teaching projects.
