This fall, families across BWG are being encouraged to lace up their shoes and roll out their wheels as part of On the Move, a local initiative that promotes walking and wheeling to school for healthier, more active children and safer communities.
The BWG On the Move working group has been making great efforts to develop tools and resources to help make active transportation to school a success. Highlighting safety tips, trip-planning tools, and more, the BWG On the Move webpage provides families, schools, and community members with everything they need to support and encourage safe, active travel to and from school.
Walk and Wheel to School Day is part of the broader International Walk to School Month (IWALK). It encourages students and families to use active transportation, whether walking, biking, scootering, or using a wheelchair, to get to school.
To get ready for this fun event, join the Mayor and Members of Council at a flag raising and proclamation on September 24, 2025, at 4:15 p.m. Together, we will proclaim BWG's commitment to safe and active travel for all students.
"On the Move is about more than just getting from point A to point B. It's about building healthy habits, reducing traffic around our schools, and creating safer streets for our children," said James Leduc, Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury. "When families take part, we're not only supporting our kids' well-being, we're strengthening our entire community."
On the morning of October 1, 2025 (rain or shine), join your school community to ensure a safe trip to school. Each school will celebrate the day in their own way, with working group members and Town staff on hand to help. Reach out to your school to see how you can get involved. Community members are also encouraged to be extra cautious in school zones to support Walk and Wheel to School Day.
