The City of Calgary and Bow Valley College are thrilled to officially announce the renaming of City Hall Station to City Hall/Bow Valley College Station effective Sept. 19. This change aims to enhance community connectivity, improve wayfinding, and recognize this educational institution as a city landmark.
"Bow Valley College has always been an integral player in the vitality of our downtown," said Mayor Jyoti Gondek. "This change is an opportunity to make our transit system more intuitive not only for people travelling to City Hall but for the thousands of students that have chosen to pursue greater opportunities through education at this innovative post-secondary institution."
Dr. Misheck Mwaba, President & CEO of Bow Valley College added, "We are honoured to be recognized in this manner. The renaming validates our role in the community and significantly enhances the college's visibility, aiding our mission to open doors, remove barriers, and provide opportunities."
The new station name will make navigation in the area easier for students, faculty and community members, especially those who are newcomers to Calgary or are visiting the city.
The renaming follows suit with other prominent post-secondary institutions in the city with nearby Transit access, like SAIT and University of Calgary, and marks a new relationship between these two important local entities.
Transit customers will notice website updates and new station signage, interior train signage, and system maps, including Google Maps, as of Sept. 19. More information can be found on the Calgary Transit website.
