CHARLOTTETOWN
City Celebrates Arbor Day with Elementary Students

May 21, 2019

The City of Charlottetown welcomed an enthusiastic group of elementary students to Victoria Park on May 17 to celebrate Arbor Day.

L.M. Montgomery students, Emanuel Robinson and Brianna Shaw, work together with Mayor Philip Brown to plant a tree in Victoria Park as part of Arbor Day.

Arbor Day is a celebration of trees. It has been an ongoing tradition across North America since 1872. Residents are encouraged to take a hands-on role in beautifying the community and realizing the importance of trees to our quality of life here in Charlottetown.

Close to 200 students from L.M Montgomery, Spring Park, Sherwood, St. Jean, and Francois-Buote Elementary Schools participated in the City of Charlottetown's Arbor Day. Activities included a native tree planting and mulching, nature tours, a watershed demonstration, and fun with big bubble wands.  The students were entertained at the West Royalty Community Centre and took home some nature related giveaways.
