POSITION
Hourly Teachers - Nursing (Fall 2024)

The College is seeking hourly paid professors (Clinical Instructors) to teach credited courses (clinical) within the Nursing program in the Fall 2024.

180-D11-HR Introduction to Nursing
This course introduces the foundation concepts of Nursing Practice through theory, lab and a clinical placement. The students will apply their theory & lab knowledge in their first clinical placement in the program.

WORK LOCATION
La Ressource - QC - Thursday, Day/Evening Rotation; October 17 to December 5, 2024 (no clinical October 31) with availability to the College as of August 19, 2024, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (6 shifts)

West End Villa - Ontario - Thursday Day/Evening Rotation; October 17 to December 5, 2024 (no clinical October 31) with availability to the College as of August 19, 2024, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (6 shifts)

180-A36-HR Pediatric Nursing
This course includes the theory and lab nursing concepts required to care for children and families within the Pediatric hospital setting. The students will apply their theory and lab knowledge in a Pediatric setting, which will be their fourth clinical placement in the program.

WORK LOCATION
CHEO - Tuesday, Day/Evening Rotation 4E; October 29 - December 3, 2024, with availability to the College as of August 19, 2024, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (6 shifts)

180-A51-HR Mental Health Nursing
This course introduces the theory and skills required to care for individuals with Mental Health problems in a hospital setting. The students will apply their theory and skills in a Mental Health hospital placement.

WORK LOCATION
Civic Hospital - Monday/Tuesday/some Wednesdays, Day/Evening rotation; August 26 - October 1, 2024, with availability to the College as of August 19, 2024, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (12shifts)

Montfort Hospital - Monday/Tuesday/some Wednesdays, Day/Evening rotation; August 26 - October 1, 2024, with availability to the College as of August 19, 2024, for meetings and Hospital orientation. 7.5 hours per day (12shifts)

SALARY RANGE (PER HOUR)
81.93$ - 120.53$

DESCRIPTION:
The Heritage College Nursing Program provides a full-time, three-year RN competency-based diploma program. Given that nursing is a practice-based profession, we believe that clinical experience is a vital and integral component of the curriculum, providing students with hands-on opportunities to practice their nursing skills under direct supervision of their clinical instructor. The clinical instructor supports student learning, liaises with assigned nurses in a clinical unit and collaborates with the Faculty Team Leader. The clinical instructor role is an essential and powerful component of nursing education.

Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend clinical instructor and student hospital orientation for all positions.
  • Attend and assist students with skills lab when clinical groups are in a Lab environment or using the Simulation Lab.
  • Support student learning:
  1. Select appropriate patient assignment as per clinical pedagogy.
  2. Direct supervision and monitor student performance in clinical setting;
  3. Organize pre-post conferences online;
  4. Review and offer weekly written and verbal feedback of student learning objectives;
  5. Review and discuss student midterm self-assessments;
  6. Assess student progress and complete final student evaluations;
  7. Ensure completion of student clinical assignments and assess competency as per rubric within the given time frame.
  8. Liaise with faculty to ensure coherence across class;
  9. Conduct midterm and final evaluation with students.
  • Collaborate with course faculty: ensure ongoing communication with course team leader.
  • Attend weekly student progress meetings online.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, and several years of teaching experience at the university or college level is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Pediatric Nursing Experience and Mental Health Nursing.
  • Fluency in English , both oral and written is required.
  • Knowledge of software as per program requirements is necessary.
  • Must be a member of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Hold an OIIQ (Ordre des infirmiers et infirmières du Québec) license for all Quebec placements.
