The Assistant Vice-President Indigenous Initiatives (AVP II) will provide dynamic, visionary and collaborative senior leadership that supports the growth of York University's Indigenous portfolio including providing leadership in supporting the Indigenous Council and the implementation of Indigenous strategic directions as embedded in many University Strategies and Frameworks. Drawing on the Indigenous Framework Review (IFR) Report, and working in collaboration with the community, the AVP II will operationalize an institutional vision of Indigenous Initiatives at York, working in a seven-year increments. The AVP Indigenous Initiatives is expected to develop and nurture relationships across the university and the external community with the goals of Indigenization, Reconciliation and Decolonization. The AVP II will lead regular reviews to track institutional progress. Reporting to the Vice-President Equity, People and Culture (VP EPC), and with a strong relationship to the Indigenous Council, the AVP II will work to identify and advance strategic objectives within the portfolio of Indigenous Initiatives. The incumbent will work closely with the Provost, Vice-Provost Students, Vice-Provost Academic, Vice-Provost Teaching & Learning, Vice-President Research & Innovation, Vice-President Advancement, Associate Vice-President Faculty Affairs, Deans, Executive Director for the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion, and other academic and administrative leaders to enhance the mission of York University through programs and activities that support Indigenization, Decolonization and Reconciliation.

 

Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

Education: 
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Graduate degree in a field such as education, social work, law or public policy.

Experience: 
10 years of related experience.
7 years of management experience.
Must self-identify as Indigenous and be able to demonstrate their belonging to a recognized Indigenous People. Experience with post-secondary education initiatives, programs and transformative practices in support of Indigenous education, student success and community engagement.
Demonstrated history of meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.
A proven track record of embedding practices of decolonizing, equity, diversity and inclusion in processes and actions.

Salary & Benefits

Hiring Salary Range:$205,756 - $223,365 (FTE annual)
