Position Title: Communications Officer (Social Media Content Creator & Videographer)
Location: Catholic Education Centre, Ottawa, ON
Duration: Temporary, Full-time Maternity Leave Coverage (Starting Mid-July 2025 - September 2026)
Reports To: Senior Manager of Communications

Job Summary

Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for visual content and community engagement? The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is seeking a dynamic Communications Officer to join our award-winning team on a temporary full-time basis to cover a maternity leave.

 

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. We are looking for someone with a strong background in videography and photography to take on this full-time role during the maternity leave. In this position, you will lead projects in videography, photography, and social media storytelling, connecting our vibrant school communities, celebrating student achievements, and showcasing our Catholic values.

 

We want someone who sees a school hallway and imagines a story, who can capture moments that make people stop scrolling, and who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will work closely with staff, administrators, and students to produce high-quality, mission-aligned content that reflects the OCSB's commitment to innovation, community, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Videography & Photography

  • Plan, shoot, and edit professional-quality videos and photos for social media, websites, and other communication channels.

  • Capture key events, initiatives, and stories that highlight the OCSB's achievements and values.

  • Maintain and organize video/photo equipment and digital assets.

Social Media Content Creation

  • Develop and execute social media strategies to enhance the Board's online presence.

  • Create engaging content for multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, X Instagram).

  • Monitor social media channels for trends and engagement opportunities.

  • Respond to community inquiries on social media in line with OCSB guidelines.

General Communications Support

  • Assist with drafting blogs and other written communications.

  • Ensure consistent branding across all communication materials.

  • Support broader communication campaigns as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Required: College diploma in media arts, digital media arts, multimedia arts, film/television production, or communications.

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Experience Required: 2–3 years of professional experience in videography and photography; experience with graphic design is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in video production (filming, editing) using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.

  • Strong photography skills with an eye for detail and storytelling.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and analytics tools.

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to schools/events.

  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.

Working Conditions

  • Travel within Ottawa to various schools/events on a weekly basis.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work required for events or deadlines.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) term position with an annual salary range of $92,779 - $100,637 plus 4% in lieu of vacation.  Salary will be prorated as applicable based on the duration of the assignment.

 

The anticipated start date for this position is June 23, 2025 with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2026.
