June 7, 2018

Yukon Colleges welcomes Dr. Wally Rude as Registrar and Dean of Enrolment Services.

Dr. Rude comes to Yukon from Alberta where he was Vice President for Student Development at Ambrose University in Calgary. While at Ambrose, Dr. Rude implemented a comprehensive retention program that saw student retention grow from 58 per cent to 80 percent over 10 years. He also assisted in the transition from Ambrose University College to Ambrose University and led the Indigenous Student Success Team, Mental Health Strategy Team, and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) varsity program.

"I am excited to work with my new team at Yukon College to enhance the student experience beyond the classroom and support the thriving of every student here," said Dr. Rude.

Dr. Rude holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and a PhD in Higher Education. His dissertation research on outdoor education and student thriving was recently published in the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership

As Registrar and Dean of Enrolment Services, Dr. Rude plays a pivotal role in the provision of strategic recruitment, admissions, registration, enrolment and student support services at the institution.

"Dr. Rude brings an extensive background in the post-secondary student care environment. His holistic approach and student-centered vision will help ensure Yukon College maximizes our ability to offer exceptional, transformational experiences for our students," said Dr. Karen Barnes, Yukon College President and Vice Chancellor.

Dr. Rude took up his new position on May 7.

"My immediate priorities are building a cohesive team, better understanding the student experience, introducing an online application process, and implementing recruitment strategies; however, I am also keen on expanding opportunities for students to thrive by building upon the existing campus recreation programs and exploring opportunities for varsity athletics at Yukon College. Physical health and well-being can have a huge impact on student success and motivation," said Dr. Rude.
