Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is proud to be listed as one of Canada's Top 50 Research Polytechnics and Colleges by Research Infosource Inc. Ranked 43 overall, RDP was also ranked fourth for completed research projects, 19th for research partnerships and 17th for paid student researchers.

In 2022, Red Deer Polytechnic attracted more than $2 million in applied research investment. Home to the Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing-Technology Access Centre (CIM-TAC) and Energy Innovation Centre (EIC), RDP is a leader in advanced manufacturing and energy innovation applied research. The CIM-TAC, which houses $7.6 million in prototype and advanced manufacturing equipment, completed 64 projects for 57 companies and had more than 1,300 engagements with business and industry partners in 2022.
RDP students, faculty and staff also engage in multi-disciplinary applied research with community partners, such as the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC). Together with the CACAC, RDP is identifying best practices related to integrated practices for child advocacy.
In addition to housing modern facilities on campus, Red Deer Polytechnic offers expertise and resources that support advancement of research across a variety of research themes. Along with supporting applied research that is conducted by members of the Polytechnic community, RDP collaborates with entrepreneurs, industry, not-for-profits and government. These partnerships help to solve key problems in the areas of manufacturing, sustainable energy, rural and community health and wellness, environment and ecology and child advocacy.
