The Avon Maitland District School Board is dedicated to having safe and welcoming schools for all. Incidents of bullying, racism and hate, and suspicion or signs of sex trafficking have no place in our schools.
In order to provide an anonymous system for reporting, the board has released a new Anonymous Reporting Tool. A link to the tool has been placed on each school's website for anyone to advise staff of concerns about:
- Bullying
- Racism and hate
- Suspicion or signs of sex trafficking.
These incidents can occur on school property, cooperative education sites, during field trips or sporting events, or on remote learning platforms. Each website link automatically submits the form to the school principal so that follow-up can begin immediately.
"This reporting system is one component of our work towards addressing these issues." Said Jason Burt (Burt), Human Rights and Equity Lead Administrator.
Staff at all levels of the organization, including the Director, Superintendents, Principals/Vice-Principals, and all other employees have received training on how to recognize, respond (immediate and long-term), report, and support students impacted and involved in bullying, racism and hate incidents and suspicion or signs of sex trafficking.
Although the reporting system is anonymous, personal information (e.g. name) will aid the school principal in fact-finding and resolving the issue.
The Anonymous Reporting Tool does not provide quick support. In case of an emergency, students and staff are advised to call 911. If students need emotional support, they are asked to call Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or Text: 686868 or Huron Perth Helpline & Crisis Response Team at 1-888-829-7484.
