Team from Algoma U Sault Ste. Marie campus took home the win
Algoma University successfully hosted The Northern Ontario Business Case Competition (NOBCC) on Thursday, which saw 12 teams of university students compete in a high-pressure case study to gain first-hand industry experience.
The students were provided with an unfamiliar business scenario along with analog tools no internet to devise a comprehensive solution. Each case was then presented by the students before a panel of judges comprising local and regional business experts.
"Students learning alongside our community is the heart of many faculty who work at Algoma University. Engaging with esteemed guest judges and local business partners, these students forge connections that enrich their experience, develop them professionally, and pave the way for bright futures," said Dr. Jody Rebek, Algoma University Associate Professor, School of Business & Economics. "This real-time talent development event celebrates our students' academic excellence, ingenuity, and preparedness to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world."
Nine teams from Algoma University's Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton Campuses were selected, along with two teams from Sault College, and one team from Lake Superior State University. They were judged by Dr. Robin Mazumder, Neuroscientist, Writer, Speaker, and Consultant, and Jennifer Ménard-Shand, Entrepreneur, Speaker, Founder and CEO of Staff Shop Inc. and FireFlames Inc.
Algoma University congratulates the first-place team, Josh Battisti, Nick Pagnotta, and Julia Ferreira from Algoma University's Sault Ste. Marie Campus for their outstanding problem-solving and creativity forged and rooted in the North. The university also congratulates the second and third-place teams, representing Sault College and Algoma University, respectively.
"It is incredibly exciting to win this year's NOBCC," stated the winning team, "It really pushed our problem-solving to new heights, letting us get real, hands-on experience using the skills we learned in school. Receiving feedback from the judges and networking with industry professionals has helped to open many new doors for potential internships and future collaborations!"
