Trustees at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board hosted their "Celebrating Excellence" event last week, honouring students and staff for exceptional contributions and achievements over the past year. The annual event, which took place at St. John Vianney Parish in Barrie, was attended by nearly 300 individuals and showcased heartwarming and inspiring recognitions across various categories.
Emcee and Board Chair Maria Hardie expressed her admiration for this year's recipients. "Tonight, we celebrate not just the achievements but the spirit of dedication, compassion, and excellence that defines our Catholic education community. Each of these individuals has made a profound impact, and we are proud to honour them."
Outstanding Graduates: Graduates from each of the nine Catholic high schools were celebrated for their contributions and success in their respective fields. These individuals have gone on to make significant impacts in various areas such as medicine, humanitarian efforts, entrepreneurship and more.
Academic Achievements: Among the honoured were students who have received prestigious medals and recognitions for their academic excellence and dedication to volunteerism. Their work includes significant contributions to community programs and advocacy.
Athletic Achievements: Many students received accolades for their medal-winning performances at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations level (OFSAA) and other significant provincial/national sporting competitions. Students were recognized for outstanding achievements in track and field, swimming, alpine skiing, and more.
Artistic Achievements: The evening highlighted artistic talents within the board, including the winner of national music competitions and the Board's annual Christmas card artwork contest.
Lwanga Equity Vanguard Awards: The Lwanga Equity Vanguard Awards recognized efforts to strengthen equity and inclusion. Recipients were acknowledged for their significant contributions to foster diversity and understanding within their school communities.
Seton Awards for Faith and Service: The Seton Awards celebrated individuals who embody Catholic values and contribute significantly to social justice and community service. These recipients were recognized for their dedication to faith, service, and fostering a faith-filled community.
Empower Simcoe Inclusion Excellence Awards: These awards were presented to individuals who promote inclusive environments within their schools. The recipients exemplified the values of inclusion and worked tirelessly to ensure a welcoming environment for all.
The Celebrating Excellence event (now in its ninth year) continues to be a testament to outstanding achievements within the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, and a showcase of the diverse talents and unwavering commitment of its staff and students. Our schools are making a positive difference in their communities and beyond.
