We are so proud to announce that two students from Kirkland Lake District Composite School (KLDCS) brought home the gold in the Robotics category at the prestigious Skills Canada National Competition recently held in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Iurii Kovalev and Liam McBean demonstrated exceptional technical skill, innovation, and teamwork to take top honours among competitors from across the country. Their gold-medal performance showcased not only their deep understanding of robotics and engineering principles, but also their ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively under pressure.
Skills Canada is one of the country's largest national skills competitions, drawing hundreds of students and apprentices to compete in over 40 skilled trade and technology events. The robotics competition challenges participants to design, build, and program a robot to complete a series of complex tasks within a set time frame.
Dan Kurtz, KLDCS Teacher and Team Coach, expressed his pride in the students' work: "Their robots were far beyond anything the national competition had ever seen to this point, they truly pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible and inspired teams across the country."
Liam McBean shared his excitement: "I'm very happy to put a small northern town on the map for a national competition." Iurii Kovalev adds: "It was nice to meet people from across the country and participate in something so big."
DSB1 congratulates Iurii and Liam on this outstanding achievement and commends their dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
