COLLÈGE BORÉAL
Collège Boréal's Olivia Baudet receives Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security Award of Excellence

June 27, 2025

This recognition highlights Olivia Baudet's outstanding accomplishments, including hands-on fieldwork, deep community involvement, and a key role in securing research funding that significantly impacts Collège Boréal's environmental initiatives.

On June 25, Olivia Baudet, technologist and project officer with Collège Boréal's Research and Innovation Boréal (RIB) sector, was honoured with a Minister's Award of Excellence in the Rising Star category. This marks the second consecutive year that a Collège Boréal staff member has received this prestigious distinction, following Professor Marc Hébert, who was recognized last year in the Everyday Heroes category.

A graduate of the Forestry and Wildlife Technician program (2019) and the Fish and Wildlife Management Technology program (2020), Olivia Baudet joined RIB in 2021, where she works as a research technologist and project officer. During the 2023-2024 academic year, she played a central role in numerous innovative projects focused on soil rehabilitation, sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, and natural resource management. Her impact goes far beyond project coordination. Olivia mentors, supports, and inspires student research assistants, builds strong partnerships with external stakeholders, and creates meaningful internship and employment opportunities.

In 2023-2024, Olivia also played a key role in securing major research funding, including for initiatives aimed at reducing food waste and enhancing research infrastructure. In addition to her leadership and ability to bring innovative ideas to life, she is equally recognized for her community engagement. She serves on key committees such as the City of Greater Sudbury's Regreening Advisory Panel and Acfas-Nouvel-Ontario, volunteers with wildlife rehabilitation initiatives, and acts as a media ambassador for Collège Boréal.

Known for her rigour, creativity, and passion for natural ecosystems, Olivia Baudet contributes actively to post-secondary education. She teaches at the School of the Environment and Natural Resources, supports fieldwork activities, and takes part in recruitment events. She is also involved in intersectoral initiatives such as Women in Trades.

"This Minister's Award of Excellence reflects the high quality of our programs and the vital role Collège Boréal graduates play early in their careers. With her professionalism, innovative spirit, and multi-level engagement, Olivia Baudet is an inspiring role model who actively contributes to the College's reputation and the well-being of the communities we serve."
