One of the keys to student success in NLPS is ensuring students and staff have access to digital tools that are accessible, secure, and running smoothly. This year, that commitment was recognized provincially when the Alberta Technology Leaders in Education (ATLE) presented their Passion Award to one of the Division's key technology leaders, Matt Stavert, Manager of Software and Integration.

The Passion Award recognizes individuals who show extraordinary commitment and leadership in improving digital learning opportunities for students.
"Matt's work ethic and commitment to students are undeniable," said Bob Barrett, NLPS Director of ET/IT. "He often becomes so engrossed in solving problems that he loses track of time, emailing colleagues at all hours, sometimes even from different continents."
Stavert, who served with the Division for over 20 years, is an integral part of almost everything technology-related within NLPS. HIs focus has always been on making it easier for students and staff to access technology through initiatives such as centralizing iPad management, wireless access to enhance student use of Chromebooks, single sign-on to lower the number of logins for staff and students, giving them more time to focus on teaching and learning.
His dedication extends beyond the Division's boundaries. Stavert is known throughout the province for his willingness to assist other school divisions who are experiencing challenges. He frequently reaches out to his technology counterparts, volunteering to share his experience and help them work on solutions.
"He never waits to be asked," said Barrett. "He has worked tirelessly to enhance the technological capabilities of NLPS and, by extension, any other division that seeks his assistance."
For Stavert, helping others is a natural extension of his commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
"Success is a team effort; education and knowledge are a lifetime journey," he said. "I am thankful for the mentorship I have received throughout my career, and will continue to give back to my team and the IT community while mentoring others when the opportunity arises. I look forward to our IT teams' continual growth and professional development."
Stavert is the NLPS Staff Shining Star for the month of December. Each month during the 2025-2026 school year, NLPS celebrates staff who go above and beyond to support students, strengthen school communities and make a meaningful impact across our division.
