High Prairie School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Palko as the division's new Attendance Officer. This critical role underscores the division's commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically and socially by fostering consistent school attendance.
The Attendance Officer is tasked with monitoring student attendance, identifying barriers to regular attendance, and working collaboratively with schools, families, and community partners to create solutions that support student engagement.
Superintendent and CEO Murray Marran expressed his enthusiasm for the new hire. "Consistent school attendance is fundamental to student success. By welcoming former HPSD administrator Lisa Palko to this role, we are ensuring that students and families in High Prairie School Division have the support they need to overcome challenges and create a pathway to success."
Lisa entered the teaching profession, working for the Little Red River Cree Nation in Fox Lake, Alberta. After three years, she moved south to Slave Lake and began a thirty-year career with the High Prairie School Division. Ms. Palko taught grades six, eight, and nine before eventually moving into administration. Through the years, she has been the principal of all four public schools in Slave Lake, retiring in June 2023. This school year, she returned to HPSD as an administrator mentor and will now also begin the role of Attendance Officer for the division.
High Prairie School Division is confident that this new appointment will have a significant impact on improving attendance rates and fostering a supportive environment for all students. Join us in welcoming Lisa Palko to her new role within the High Prairie School Division.
