HALTON DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
HDSB announces Brent Coakwell as incoming Superintendent of Education

June 11, 2025

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is pleased to announce that Brent Coakwell, System Principal of Safe Schools for the HDSB, has been selected as the incoming Superintendent of Education. Brent is the successful candidate of the Superintendent hiring process that took place in May, following the announcement that Superintendent of Education Jennie Petko would be stepping into the role of Associate Director of Education.

Brent enters the role with extensive leadership experience in the education sector, having served at both school and board levels. Brent began his career with the HDSB in 2017 as Principal of T.A. Blakelock High School in Oakville. Prior to joining the HDSB, Brent served as an administrator with the Peel District School Board and brings with him many years of experience as both a teacher and school leader. His leadership at the school level led to his appointment as System Principal of Safe Schools for the HDSB, a role in which his strategic guidance and collaborative approach have been instrumental in advancing student success and well-being and creating safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environments.
