NAIT welcomes Doreen Smith, who was appointed to NAIT's Board of Governors for a three-year term on June 4, 2025.

Cole brings over three decades of leadership experience across Canada's energy, mining, utilities, and education sectors. She most recently served as Executive Vice-President, Downstream, at Cenovus Energy, overseeing refining operations across North America. She has also held executive roles with Suncor, EPCOR, Shell Canada, and Syncrude Canada Ltd.
In addition to her corporate leadership, Cole has contributed her expertise to post-secondary and community Boards, including various Cenovus Boards, the Fort McMurray Economic Development Corporation, Syncrude Canada Ltd., and Keyano College.
Cole holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and has completed additional business and executive leadership education programs from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia and Harvard University in Boston. She also has an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Management.
