The Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Kashak as the new Manager of Mental Health, effective November 24, 2025.
Doug brings over 25 years of experience supporting youth, families, and communities across Northern Ontario. His extensive background includes direct clinical care, system leadership, crisis response, and multi-agency collaboration. Doug is deeply committed to trauma-informed practices, student well-being, and family-centered support, and has a proven record of strengthening community partnerships and service pathways that improve access to care.
In his new role, Doug will continue to advance SGDSB's Mental Health Strategy, which is available on the Board's website. Working closely with school teams, senior administration, and community partners, he will support the continued development of a caring, responsive, and student-focused mental health and well-being framework aligned with the Board's Multi-Year Strategic Plan priorities -- Joy in Learning and Teaching, a Culture of High Expectations and Inclusivity, and Meaningful Community Connections and Partnerships.
"I am excited to be joining the SGDSB community," said Doug Kashak. "As a person who has lived and worked in the district for over 25 years, I've seen the amazing work that the school board has done to support our children and youth in their growth as individuals. As the Mental Health Manager, I look forward to continuing this work, promoting mental wellness, and supporting staff and students within our school system."
The Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Deana Renaud, former Manager of Mental Health, for her outstanding leadership and dedication. Under Deana's guidance, SGDSB has built an exceptional team of mental health professionals and achieved significant progress in strengthening proactive supports for students across the district.
SGDSB also extends appreciation to its dedicated team of mental health professionals who continue to provide essential services and ensure continuity of care for students throughout the transition period.
"We are thrilled to welcome Doug to the Superior-Greenstone District School Board," said Director of Education Will Goodman. "His experience, compassion, and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to prioritize mental health, wellness, and belonging for all students and staff."
