Congratulations and best wishes to Teri Smith, who has announced she will be retiring at the end of the year from her role as principal at Park Meadows Elementary School.
After three decades in education, Smith carries with her deep gratitude for the journey and the people who shaped it.

From her early years as a middle school teacher in Horizon School Division, teaching grades 6-8 at Erle Rivers School and D.A. Ferguson Middle School, to her work as a teacher and administrator in Lethbridge School Division, her career has always been guided by a belief in creating learning environments where students feel supported, challenged and inspired to think critically, collaborate meaningfully and express themselves creatively.
"Education has provided me with the privilege of working alongside dedicated colleagues, students, families and community partners who share a commitment to learning and well-being," said Smith.
Whether in the classroom, supporting inclusive programming or serving in school leadership roles, she has been motivated by relationships listening carefully, acting with empathy and working collaboratively to meet the diverse needs of students.
Supporting staff professional learning, mentoring new leaders, fostering inclusive practices and building connections with families and community organizations have been among the most meaningful aspects of her work.
Smith added she is proud of the many initiatives and learning opportunities she has been part of but most of all, she is grateful for the moments watching students grow in confidence, seeing staff take risks in their practice and witnessing school communities come together in care and purpose.
"While the decision to retire was not an easy one, it comes with a sense of peace and appreciation for a career rooted in service," said Smith.
She looks forward to closing this chapter knowing that the relationships, learning and shared work will continue well beyond her time in schools.
- 30 years in education
- 17 years in one division
- 13 in another division
- thousands of school days and more students supported and encouraged than can be counted!
- working with over 500 colleagues teachers, educational assistants, administrators, families and community partners, in the shared work of education.
...But the moments that mattered most the relationships built, the trust earned, the growth witnessed and the lives touched, can't be measured or tallied. Those memories, experiences and connections are truly priceless.
Smith is eager to spend more time with family and friends while exploring her many creative passions. Known for her creativity, she is looking forward to sharing her love of art, stained glass and other talents that she now has time to enjoy. Her husband, Rick, daughter Camryn, twin sons Dean and Alex, and a wide circle of friends, are ready to welcome her into retirement.
Congratulations on your retirement!
