We are pleased to share a thoughtful leadership transition within our District, reflecting both professional growth and a continued commitment to our school communities.
Following conversation and mutual interest, Principals Steven Brown and Sean Petersen have each expressed a desire to pursue new leadership opportunities within the district. As a result, they will be switching school assignments effective August 1, 2026, with Principal Brown moving from John Howitt Elementary School to Maquinna Elementary School, and Principal Petersen moving from Maquinna Elementary School to John Howitt Elementary School.
Principal Brown has served as Principal of John Howitt Elementary School for the past nine years, providing steady and dedicated leadership to the school community. Similarly, Principal Petersen has led Maquinna Elementary School for seven years, demonstrating a strong commitment to students, staff, and families. Both have made meaningful contributions to their current school communities, and we are grateful for their leadership over these many years.
This transition reflects a thoughtful approach to professional growth while continuing to support the evolving needs of our schools. We are confident that both Howitt Elementary and Maquinna Elementary will benefit from the experience, perspective, and leadership each Principal will bring to their new roles.
We would also like to note that this change will be implemented at no additional cost to the District. We thank both principals for their ongoing dedication and willingness to take on new opportunities, and we look forward to the positive impact they will continue to have in their new school communities.
Please join us in congratulating them in their new roles!
Sincerely,
Cynthia Orr, Board Chair,
Board of Education,
Pacific Rim School District
