The Honourable Paul Dinn, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, has announced the appointment and reappointment of six members of the Memorial University Board of Regents.
All appointments and reappointments are for three-year terms:
- Justin Ladha is reappointed as chairperson of the Board.
- Donna Rideout and Glenn Normore are appointed as joint representatives, serving on both Memorial University's Board of Regents and the College of the North Atlantic's Board of Governors. These joint appointments support enhanced collaboration between the province's public post-secondary institutions.
- Tim Powers, Lynn Zurel, and Bob Hallett are reappointed to the Board as general member representatives.
The Board of Regents serves as Memorial University's corporate governing body and is responsible for overseeing the university's property, finances, operations and overall affairs. It is composed of individuals with a broad range of knowledge and expertise.
Biographies
Justin Ladha
Justin Ladha is chief executive officer of KMK Capital Inc., a vertically integrated group of companies with operations across a breadth of real estate-related industries. He is a past chairperson of the St. John's Board of Trade, has experience as a member of the board of directors of Nalcor Energy-Oil and Gas Inc., and is a member of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club executive. Mr. Ladha holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Memorial University and an Institute of Corporate Directors ICD.D designation from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
Bob Hallett
Bob Hallett is executive director of the East Coast Music Association. He is a nationally recognized musician, entrepreneur and industry leader. Best known as a founding member of the award-winning band Great Big Sea, his career spans music performance, venue revitalization, nonprofit leadership, artist management and development, and large-scale event production. He has served on several nonprofit boards, including the East Coast Music Association Board from 2013-2015. Mr. Hallett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memorial University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Fredericton.
Glenn Normore
Glenn Normore holds a Master of Education in Leadership and brings more than three decades of leadership, academic expertise, and educational consulting experience to this role. Over a 31-year career in education, he served as a university instructor, educational consultant, and secondary school educator, with a focus on curriculum development and classroom management. He has championed initiatives in Universal Design for Learning and the strategic integration of AI tools to enhance student engagement. He is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.
Mr. Normore also has experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors, having served as the owner of Odyssey Enterprises and as a general manager within the not-for-profit community. Internationally, he represented Canada for 10 years on the Executive Board of FIBA Americas and on the executive of Canada Basketball. He was twice recognized as Executive of the Year by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador.
Tim Powers
Tim Powers, originally from St. John's, is the chair of Summa Strategies, a leading Canadian public affairs consulting firm, and the managing director of Abacus Data, an opinion research company, both headquartered in Ottawa. Mr. Powers is a past chairperson of Rugby Canada, past lead director of the Park Lawn Corporation, and a former trustee at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health. He also has experience on the boards of Melanoma Canada and the Jack Purcell Recreation Association and is a Class B member of the Canadian Olympic Committee. Mr. Powers has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Memorial University, a Master of Arts degree from St. Mary's University, a Master of Sciences degree from the London School of Economics, and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors with ICD.D designation.
Donna Rideout
Donna Rideout is a chartered professional accountant and chartered financial planner by training. Ms. Rideout started her career with Walters Hoffe Chartered Accountants, where she became a partner in 1996 and continued with Grant Thornton LLP after a merger in 2014, where she was a principal until her retirement in 2015. Ms. Rideout has served on numerous boards of directors, including NLC, Newfoundland Power, the Heritage Foundation for Terra Nova Park, the Gander International Airport Authority (including a term as chair), the Board of Examiners for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce.
Lynn Zurel
Lynn Zurel is a CPA, CA and holds the ICD.D designation. As a CA, Ms. Zurel worked in public practice, primarily with Ernst and Young, and has served in leadership roles as a Board member for several Crown corporations and numerous not-for-profit organizations. In addition to service to the Board of Regents, Ms. Zurel is the vice-chairperson of the NLC Board of Directors.
