Brock University's 2024 United Way Campaign has raised more than $152,000 to help build a better future for everyone in Niagara.

Brock University's United Way Campaign committee is wrapping up another successful year, having raised 94 per cent of its goal. From left are Ryan Michaels, Annual Giving Development Officer at United Way Niagara with committee members Koreen McCullough, Communications, Popular Culture and Film Academic Administrator and the committee's Staff Co-Chair; Allison Flynn-Bowman, Faculty Graduate Liaison and Support Coordinator in the Faculty of Social Sciences; and Michelle Leone, Undergraduate Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator for Recreation and Leisure Studies.
The funds raised from this year's campaign will support more than 92 local programs and initiatives funded by United Way Niagara that address issues such as poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, mental health and well-being, gender-based violence and addiction.
"More than 100,000 people in our region used a program funded by United Way Niagara in 2024. Every dollar given by Brock employees makes a difference for people who could be our friends, neighbours, loved ones or colleagues," said Koreen McCullough, Communications, Popular Culture and Film Academic Administrator and Brock's United Way Campaign Staff Co-Chair.
Since 2003, the Brock community has raised more than $2.9 million for United Way Niagara, which relies on employee payroll contribution campaigns for about half of the funds.
"Our vision is a strong Niagara where everyone has the opportunity to thrive," said United Way Niagara CEO Frances Hallworth. "Local partners like Brock University make it possible for us to make that vision a reality."
While the 2024 employee fundraising campaign is wrapping up, Brock's committee is already looking ahead to next year's campaign.
It's a bittersweet moment for outgoing Faculty Co-Chair Colleen Whyte (BRLS '97), Associate Professor with the Recreation and Leisure Department, who has served in the role since 2021.
"Being a part of Brock's United Way Campaign Committee has been incredibly fulfilling," she said. "It's a small team, but we're all dedicated to making a big impact in the Niagara community."
