HAMILTON-WENTWORTH CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Coats for Kids: Knights of Columbus Deliver Warmth to HWCDSB

November 24, 2025

Over 500 students across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board will be protected from the winter elements, thanks to a Coats for Kids' initiative run by the Knights of Columbus.

Coats for Kids evolved from a conversation in 2015 ago between Neil Bouvier, General Agent for the Knights of Columbus Insurance Program and Nat Gallo, a retired Catholic secondary school principal regarding a project that the councils could do together. Gallo, a former Supreme Director with the Knights of Columbus Supreme Board suggested Coats for Kids, a program initiated by the Supreme Board in 2009 to provide needy children with warm winter coats.

Since its inception, over 1 million coats have been distributed globally.

"The Coats for Kids program is a powerful example of faith in action, a reminder that care for others begins in our own neighbourhoods," said Director of Education David Hansen.

Highlights of this year's donation include higher quality material and a wider range of sizing.

"Through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus, countless children across our community will be able to walk to school, play outdoors, and learn in comfort and dignity this winter. We are deeply grateful for the Knights' continued partnership and their steadfast commitment to serving those most in need."

CHCH was on scene capturing the spirit of the program. Watch the full segment here.
