UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
Scholarship created to recognize Doane Grant Thornton's Kevin Ladner

September 2, 2026

The Doane Grant Thornton Foundation has created the Amazing Lives, Rewarding Careers: Kevin Ladner Doane Grant Thornton Foundation Scholarship to recognize UPEI alumnus Kevin Ladner's exceptional leadership and commitment to developing the next generation of accounting professionals. Beginning this year, a $5,000 annual scholarship will be awarded to a third- or fourth-year accounting student in UPEI's McDougall Faculty of Business.

UPEI alumnus Kevin Ladner gave a talk during the Alumni Speaker Series celebrating the University's 50th anniversary in 2019.

This generous scholarship is part of the Doane Grant Thornton Foundation's national "Amazing Lives, Rewarding Careers" initiative, which celebrates Ladner's legacy of purpose-driven leadership following his transition from Chief Executive Officer at Doane Grant Thornton in 2026. The Foundation is committed to investing in Canada's future business leaders and instilling in them the values that Ladner exemplified throughout his lengthy career: leading with integrity, giving back, and inspiring others.

In addition to providing students with meaningful financial support, the UPEI scholarship encourages them to pursue their goals with confidence and to carry forward the values of service, professionalism, and community leadership as they prepare for careers in business and accounting. Doane Grant Thornton will also offer scholarship recipients the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program and a formal job interview.

"The Ladner family's longstanding connection to UPEI and many contributions to the McDougall Faculty of Business makes this scholarship especially meaningful: student recipients are inspired to achieve academic excellence while recognizing the importance of giving back to their communities," said Dr. Tarek Mady, Dean, McDougall Faculty of Business. "We are very grateful to the Doane Grant Thornton Foundation for recognizing and honouring Kevin through an investment in our accounting students."
